São Miguel in the Azores is a lush, green mist-shrouded island. We hike around the Furnas caldera and we visit Parque Terra Nostra to soak in the hot springs. We stay at Quinta das Amoreiras, a 250-year old manor house, and we walk down to the seashore where we swim in a tidal pool.
Jordan is an amazing country to visit. It is full-on Middle East. It has amazing sights, superb food, and very friendly people. In April of 2014 we spent a week touring around by car. We visited Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, and a number of other sights.
In part two of our Wadi Rum trip we hike through a narrow canyon, watch the sunset, and spend the night at the Rum Stars camp. In the morning we ride camels back to the trailhead.
In part one of our Wadi Rum trip, we meet our guide Abdul and jump into the back of his truck. I spot the Great Unconformity, and we tour the beautiful desert of Wadi Rum.
In part 2 of our Petra hike, we check out the central part of Petra, and we climb up steep steps to get a bird’s eye view of the Treasury. We climb up to the Monastery for more jaw-dropping views.
In part 1 of our Petra hike, we walk down the Siq, get our first glimpse of the Treasury, and we hike across a pass into Wadi Al Farasa.
Terschelling, an island off of the north coast of the Netherlands, offers great biking on cycle paths through the dunes, and wonderful beach walks on one of the world’s largest sandy beaches.
In the third part of our Kumano Kodo hike we visit the Kii-Kaatsura tuna auction, we have a picnic at Nachisan’s pagoda, and we attend a fire ceremony in Koyasan.
In the second part of our Kumano Kodo hike, we visit the Hongu grand shrine, and we hike to a village called Koguchi. We then walk a coastal section of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail.
In the first part of our Kumano Kodo hike, we walk through mile after mile of cypress forests. We get great views of the mountains at a village called Takahara, and we stay at a beautiful house called Happiness Chikatsuyu.
