In our quick visit to Chicago we attend the Thanksgiving Day parade, we do an architectural walk, we drink gluhwein at the Christmas market, we visit the Art Institute of Chicago, and we listen to some Chicago blues at a blues club.
At the end of our drive across Canada, we cycle the 200 km long P’tit Train du Nord bike path through the Laurentians, north on Montreal. The fall colours (maples) where at their peak.
In the second part of our drive across Canada, we camp along the north shore of Lake Superior. We admire scenery that the group-of-seven painters depicted so well.
In part one of our drive across Canada in a rented RV, we traverse Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. In Saskatchewan we spot abandoned farmhouses, old farm equipment, boarded-up churches, and stately grain elevators. We go for a hike in Grasslands National Park.
In part 4 of our São Miguel hikes we walk to Salto do Prego, a pretty waterfall. We tour the pretty town of Ribeira Grande.
In part 3 of our São Miguel hikes we hike into the Lagoa do Fogo crater, we hike along the coast at Maia and find a series of old water mills, and we hike around a tea plantation where some fine teas are grown.
In part 2 of our São Miguel hikes, we walk the rim of the Sete Cidades caldera and we explore the lakes and villages inside. On south coast of São Miguel we hike to the fishing village of Ribeira Quente.
São Miguel in the Azores is a lush, green mist-shrouded island. We hike around the Furnas caldera and we visit Parque Terra Nostra to soak in the hot springs. We stay at Quinta das Amoreiras, a 250-year old manor house, and we walk down to the seashore where we swim in a tidal pool.
Jordan is an amazing country to visit. It is full-on Middle East. It has amazing sights, superb food, and very friendly people. In April of 2014 we spent a week touring around by car. We visited Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, and a number of other sights.
In part two of our Wadi Rum trip we hike through a narrow canyon, watch the sunset, and spend the night at the Rum Stars camp. In the morning we ride camels back to the trailhead.
