While hiking Olle 1 through 5 on Jeju Island we encounter Haenyeo women divers, squid drying in the sunshine, surfers at a palm-backed beach, a wedding pond, beautiful paintings on a Buddhist temple, and pretty shorelines where black lava meets the blue sea.
Over the course of six days we cycle from Montreal to Sherbrooke, Quebec. Each day the weather improved, each day the fall colors became more intense, and each day the scenery arguably became a bit nicer.
There are a lot of pretty lakes in the Bow Valley between Banff and Lake Louise. In the summer of 2025 I hiked to a few of them.
During the summer of 2025, we cycled around Calgary on the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway, covering 330 km in 10 stages. This bikeride allowed us to discover parts of the city that we’ve not visited before.
On the south coast of Jeju Island, we spend three days walking the Olle trails. The landscapes are varied: coastal cliffs, orange groves, dense subtropical vegetation, open views of lava coastline, sea-stacks, gravel beaches, and more. We wish we had more time to continue down the Olle trails.
When visiting the north shore of Jeju Island, Korea, we have three days of stormy weather and one clear day. We spot Haenyeo women divers, and we feast on cutlass fish and lobster rolls.
We finish our exhilarating ride across the bridges of the Shimanami Kaido. At the halfway point, we spend the night in a traditional Japanese house from the 1950s.
In part one of our Shimanami Kaido cycling adventure, we do the Onomichi temple walk and we cycle across two bridges to Ikuchijima Island.
On a beautiful sunny day, we cycle past rice paddies and temples near Okayama, Japan.
Using the city of Tsuchiura as a base, we explore the bicycle pathways of the Ring-Ring Road north of Tokyo, Japan.
